Acrylic step-by-step
Acrylic on cotton Canvas - detail 9x11in / 20x30cm
This is a small step-by-step on a piece I had long planned.
It all started with several pen sketches. The bellow version comprises what I wanted for the final look. Initially I was going to concentrate on the figure only and not the whole sofa and background.
charcoal - 9x11in/20x30cm
I then carefully line traced the charcoal drawing to another transfer sheet. This is my charcoal comprehensive drawing.
Transfered drawing. Here I´m using Fredrix cotton canvas.
I originally planned to do this piece using Ala Prima technique. As I was not very secure on the final proportions I decided to cover the figure image, to serve me as a guideline during the painting project.
Palette choosen: white, mars black, vermillon red and yellow ochre from Liquitex.
First wash of red. It looks pretty much "no-brained" but I had practiced a lot the types and direction of the strokes. It took me several sheets of practice until I reached a level of satisfaction that I wanted to reach for the final result.
First & second layers covering the figure, shadows and some of the lightning coming from the front.
Using a combination of white, yellow ochre and vermillon red I created the skin variations, applying each brush stroke carefully.
A general view of the whole piece and its detail bellow.
Final piece with several minor corrections, especially on lightning and details for the sofa and background.
